We - my family and friends - survived Hurricane Sandy with no real consequences and are thankful for that. Many people were not as fortunate.
With no way to get to Manhattan to see clients this week (and frankly no clients able to come to Pilates) and the Brooklyn studio closed, I found myself with some time on my hands. So this morning I volunteered – and there are many options and places to help out – to assist some friends who organized a food/clothing/supplies drive for hurrican victims at Brighton Beach.
Standing in the midst of garbage bags and boxes filled with items to organize and distribute, I realized that we were all bending over and lifting heavy items, loading them into cars and trucks, and fortunate enough to be using our strong bodies to do what people do when they work selflessly to help others.
So at a time like this Pilates may seem somewhat frivolous. Although I still think it’s important to take care of yourself– for your own health and for your family. But for those of you who have extra time and resources, I have listed some links below so that you can also help others:
